I've installed ndiswrapper from the software center, installed the drivers from the CD that came with the adapter. The only difference between Ubuntu and Kubuntu is that by default Ubuntu comes with the Gnome Desktop and gnome apps and Kubuntu comes with the K Desktop Environment and KDE apps.
No, it shouldn't have an effect. It can be used for all sorts of applications.....
