GND (Pins 4,5,12,13): Connect them to common GND of circuit. I have done it before ... Power to the board is 5.2V and the votage between two pins when one is HIGH and the other LOW is 2.6V or -2.6V when they reverse. So a single stepper would use 4 switched lines to ground.
